Elizabeth A. Scroggin

My first memories have to do with sunlight and colors.  The first trouble I can remember getting into was when I used colored chalk all through the house.  I was two years old!  Since that time my favorite times have been "making stuff".

Elizabeth has been using the landscapes of Southwest Virginia as inspiration since 1985 when she and her family moved to a home in Abingdon.  Acrylics and watercolors are her main media, though she dips into all kinds of other work at times.  You might call her style impressionist, or sometimes expressionist, as she claims not to try for photorealism, but rather "sifts the natural world through her eyes, hands and heart.

After gaining a B>A> in fine arts from auburn University, Elizabeth worked in several art-connected jobs, including teaching art in both public and private schools,s some illustration work, painting signs and teaching small classes for both children and adults and acting as a docent for exhibits.  Her work has been shown in several states and is collected from Oregon to New York.

Elizabeth, known as Libby to her students and friends, is currently busy setting up a studio in the new log home she and her husband, Joe worked together to design near Abingdon.
